Our Pastor

Bishop Stephen Poyser Sr., serves as the Senior Pastor of the New Testament Church of God since the retirement of his father and founding pastor, Bishop Felix Poyser after 61 years in ministry. Bishop Stephen Poyser Sr. was born in Shefflield, England and  as a child  witnessed the humble beginnings of his father's ministry from England to  a storefront church of  7 members to now over 400 regular attendees here in Philadelphia. Before assuming the role of pastor, Bishop Stephen actively served as church musician, Sunday school bus driver, and choir director. He credits these roles with developing the skills of service, hard work, and focus which he now utilizes as senior pastor.

Bishop Stephen was awarded his ministerial certification and Bachelors degree from Shepherd’s House Bible College in Theological Studies and  is an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army. Ministry is a family affair with the Poysers with Bishop's siblings, children, and grandchildren all serving alongside him in ministry. Bishop Stephen is married to his wife and partner in ministry Jennieve who serves as a Sunday school teacher and current President of the Ladies Ministry. Since becoming pastor, Bishop Stephen has coined the phrase “Expect Great Things” as the motto for the Poyser Way New Testament Church of God.  His passion for community and reaching souls has led him and members of the church to develop a weekly food pantry  servicing underprivileged families and seniors in the Philadelphia/Delaware County region.
